Patented biological fermentation removes a controlled share of the nitrogen from a substrate before anaerobic digestion, so high-nitrogen organic waste such as poultry manure — normally an inhibitor of biogas production — can be turned into biomethane plus organic fertiliser. TotalEnergies took a 20 % minority stake in 2023 and formed a partnership to develop biomethane projects in the US and Europe; the Ohio poultry-manure plant with Weaver Brothers has its installation and operating permit for construction.
